What are Panoramic X-rays?

Panoramic Dental X-rays are done inside your mouth in order to understand your oral conditions. Here, a piece of plastic is given to bit inside your mouth and then a single picture is taken which shows the condition of your entire mouth including the nasal area and the sinuses. Dentists basically conduct this X-ray in order to identify the different factors that might be causing harm to your oral health.

Why go for Panoramic X-rays?

Panoramic X-rays basically are used to detect bone abnormalities, fractures, cysts, infections, tumors, etc. However, they are unable to detect cavities as these X-rays show the entire mouth in one picture. If your dentist suspects any of the above problems, then they would ask you to opt for this. They might also use this X-ray while planning for treatments like braces, dentures, implants, etc.

Some other benefits of using Panoramic X-rays are:

1.

The whole process is patient-friendly, where X-ray exams are performed once only.

2.

It is also easy for the dentist and the staff as they do not have to repeat anything during the process.

3.

It needes lesser steps compared to traditional X-rays and thus the whole process is much faster.

4.

It would expose the patient to lesser radiation

5.

The traditional X-rays needed more measures to prevent the machine from infections which is not the case with Panoramic X-rays.
